This series of eighteen paintings on paper called “Everybody Has the Right to Wear a Mask”, explores the concept of metamorphosis under the influence of time. The objects that define us at a certain moment in time change their form and their purpose through degradation and metamorphosis. One object that was once useful and representative for the human culture becomes in time through the process of metamorphosis some other object, most of the time organic, thus taking another meaning and purpose. Weather that might be a gas mask, a motorcycle helmet, a diver’s helmet, a football helmet, or a welding mask, they become under the action of time birds’ nests, tree bark, see grass or a culture of mushrooms. Even an object such as bourka that lately represented the symbol of cultural clashes, turns into clay temples that face the peril in time. In this sense, these paintings are a small attempt into the exploration of the futility of the material world in the face of time. Therefore, who has the right to wear a mask? The viewer will find his own answer.
