Nu suntem in fata unei noi controverse, nici in fata unui documentar analitic ci mai degraba in fata unei ironii curajoase pe ritmuri stranii.

Mircea Gherghinescu, aged 77, is known for his contribution to the Romanian school of cinematography both as a director of photography in television and as a PhD professor.

His projects include “La Pyramide du Fanfaron”, which is a movie with a documentary tint, but which proves to be a profound metaphor of a distorted reality, of a society with values crushed by the megalomania of a totalitarian regime. Made in 1992 with classical means, the visual subject of the movie is an edifice that stores the memory of a period of time belonging to our recent history: The People’s House. We are in front of neither a new controversy nor of an analytical documentary, but rather in front of a courageous irony on bizarre rhythms. A subtle irony, with a lot of strength and verticality, which reminds us the vulnerability of human condition in front of a social system that tries to reduce the individual by crushing them both literally and figuratively.

Based on an ‘exterior-interior’ cadence, with a scrupulous attention to details, Mircea Gherghinescu’s movie grants an almost hypnotic connotation to the inflation of decorative elements and gradually shapes the monstrosity of a soulless architectonics.
