New frontiers have opened up in the communication of the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme. After the InfoPoint network has gone national its newest office opened in Budapest on 25 February. Full quality information service in Budapest
It is very important for the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme to provide all information regarding its events to those people living in Budapest or just visiting the capital city. In the cooperation of the Pécs2010 Management Centre and the local government of the 5th district in Budapest a new InfoPoint opened its doors for the public under 40 Váci street in downtown Budapest on 25 February.
People will not only get information on the cultural or artistic events and programmes; the colleagues of the institution also organise groups and give short lectures on the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture project. The InfoPoint in Váci street is a perfect venue for smaller-scale events like the exhibitions of Pécs-related artists.
A private gallery located in the Buda Castle also joined the information network: people can get updates on the Hungarian capital of culture at the exhibition space operated by dr. Judit Vilics (9 Dísz tér, Budapest). This venue is outstanding since around 5.4 million tourists come to Budapest every year and 94% of these people visit the Buda Palace. The gallery will give place for exhibiting the artworks of Pécs artists. Other InfoPoints will open in the near future in Budapest for example in Westend City Centre.
National level InfoPoint network
Communication has an essential role in the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme. This is the reason why Pécs opened its first InfoPoint as early as 2007. The aim of the office operating in the heart of downtown Pécs was to give overall information about the cultural capital to the people of the city.
Besides the Széchenyi square office 6 other InfoPoints opened on 24 March 2009 covering the major parts of the city. In the summer of 2009 14 more regional InfoPoint offices opened in the South Transdanubian Region. As the final step of the expansion by the cooperation of the KKOSZ another 43 new venues will make the network national.
In the agreement of the Management Centre of the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme and the National Association of Cultural Centres those InfoPoints that they operate together will not only give information on the different programmes in their offices but they shall also organise civil forums, aim to reach the active population and the civilian organisations of the whole region.
