Scars from Soft Blades reprezintă cea mai recentă serie de lucrări a artistei Ada Muntean, reunind compoziții grafice și picturale concepute special pentru spațiul galeriei Himera. Proiectul operează atât formal, cât și conceptual într-o zonă de intersecție între universuri imaginate, memorie și subconștient. Titlul funcționează ca un oximoron asumat: „blades” — lame asociate gesturilor de tăiere și distrugere — sunt reconfigurate ca „soft”, fragile, aproape afective. În această cheie, rana nu mai semnifică doar durerea, ci devine un instrument al memoriei, un loc al metamorfozei și al devenirii.
O analogie sugestivă poate fi făcută între amintirea trecutului („the scar”) și experiența prezentului („a soft blade”), cu care negociem și cochetăm permanent. Imaginea nu se limitează la ficțiune sau la documentarea realului, ci se constituie ca un hibrid: o țesătură de flashback-uri provenite din experiențe anterioare, suprapuse peste fragmente de prezent. Această construcție vizuală funcționează ca o arheologie afectivă, în care trecutul și prezentul coexistă, conturând un imaginar personal.
Compozițiile oscilează subtil între luciditate și vis, între dimensiunea senzorială și cea conceptuală. Elementele centrale din lucrări gravitează în jurul unei realități perisabile, prezentând mici fragmente prețioase de efemer. Scars from Soft Blades nu explorează suferința în sine, ci procesele de asumare care o urmează. Demersul artistic acordă o atenție specială materialității și valorii suprafeței, înțeleasă atât ca suport fizic, cât și ca mediu activ, capabil să declanșeze reacții afective. Privitorul este invitat nu doar la contemplare, ci la o experiență de proximitate, la dorința de apropiere și la stabilirea unei relații aproape tactile cu lucrările. În acest context, suprafața încetează să mai fie doar un strat exterior și devine un spațiu de negociere între privire, corp și memorie.
Un element central al seriei este modul în care memoria se articulează vizual. Cele mai intense amintiri sunt adesea legate de experiențe dureroase, iar această tensiune se transfigurează plastic prin metafora cicatricei. Dacă memoria trecutului poate fi înțeleasă ca cicatrice, atunci existența în ansamblu devine o „lamă moale”: o prezență constantă cu care negociem permanent, oscilând între atracție și confruntarea inevitabilă cu urmele pe care le lasă.
Scars from Soft Blades explorează o perspectivă personală asupra confruntării cu realitatea și a felului în care o interpretăm, punând accent pe tensionarea și renegocierea constantă a limitelor existențiale pe care suntem tentați să le depășim. În acest cadru, expoziția creează spații de introspecție și dialog între vizibil și invizibil, conturând un univers intim în care memoria și experiența se reconfigurează prin senzație și reflecție.

Scars from Soft Blades is the most recent body of work by the artist Ada Muntean, bringing together graphic and painted compositions conceived especially for Himera gallery. The project acts formally and conceptually as an intersection between imagined universes, memory and the subconscious. The title functions as a self-conscious oxymoron: blades – associated with cutting and destruction – are reconfigured as soft, fragile, almost affectionate. In this approach, the wound no longer signifies just pain but becomes an instrument of memory, a place of metamorphosis and transformation.
A suggestive analysis could be made between remembering the past (“the scar”) and experiencing the present (“a soft blade”) with which we continually negotiate and flirt. The image is not simply limited to fiction or documenting reality but constitutes a hybrid: a weave of flashbacks from past experiences, juxtaposed over present fragments. This visual construction acts as an emotional archaeology in which the past and the present coexist, creating a personal imaginary.
The compositions ripple subtly between lucidness and dreaming, the sensory and conceptual dimensions. The central elements in the artwork gravitate around a perishable reality, representing small and precious fragments of the transient. Scars from Soft Blades do not explore suffering in itself, but the process of acknowledgement that follows. The artistic approach pays special attention to the surface’s materiality and value, understood both as a physical and as an active media, capable of striking an emotional reaction. The viewer is invited not only to contemplate but to experience the proximity, the desire for closeness and to establish an almost tactile relationship with art. In this context, the surface ceases to simply be an exterior layer and becomes a space to negotiate between gaze, body and memory.
A key element in the series is the way in which memory is presented visually. The most intense memories are often connected to painful experiences, and this tension is plastically transfigured through the metaphor of the scar. If the memory of the past can be understood as a scar, then existence itself becomes a “soft blade”: the constant presence we permanently negotiate with, swaying between attraction and the inevitable confrontation of the marks it leaves behind.
Scars from Soft Blades explores a personal perspective on confronting reality and how we interpret it, focusing on the constant tension and relaxation of the existential limits we are tempted to cross. In this framework, the exhibition creates spaces for introspection and dialogue between the visible and the invisible, outlining an intimate universe where memory and experience are reconfigured through sensation and reflection.
