Bucharest Photofest, in partnership with Budapest Photo Festival and Liszt Institute Bucharest, invites you to discover Parallel Hungary — a collective exhibition by Streetphoto Hungary.

Special Guest → Szilvia Mucsy, curator and co-director of Budapest Photo Festival

Thanks to its popularity and dynamic development, it has now become a leading trend that not only documents reality, but also creates atmosphere from light, shapes, shadows and reflections. The camera only records, reality can be shaped and therein lies the power of communication. What do we see, however, if the image is free from distortion and ideologies, does not serve any influence, power, or underlying content, but simply documents? Street photography is the most creative tool for capturing the cityscape, which is also a mirror of local and global culture. What do we see if the images show the Hungary we live in and do not show an idealized world?

The Budapest Photo Festival aims to showcase Hungarian photography in a way that reflects its rich past, while also opening space for new trends and emerging talents through exhibitions and public events. In this spirit, the call launched in 2024 led to the creation of Parallel Hungary, a diverse and compelling exhibition. Selected from a large number of submissions, the works on display offer a panoramic view of contemporary life in Central Europe — across 93,000 km² between the middle Danube and the Carpathian Mountain ranges. Street photography, one of the most vibrant and inspiring genres of the medium, serves here as both lens and language.

With a special support from Liszt Institute Bucharest.
