Traces of Identity de Pavel Grosu este un proiect tip artist open studio, ce face parte dintr-un context mai amplu – 1st Worldwide Apartment and Studio Biennale, organizată de Anna Buyvid și Anna Khodorkovskaya.
Expoziția este în primul rând o incursiune intimă în universul ambiental, obiectual și simbolic al artistului, dezvăluind o căutare plastică pornită de la coordonatele “timp | spațiu” a propriei identități. Pavel Grosu își transformă atelierul/apartament unde locuiește și lucrează, într-un spațiu deschis spre vizionarea unei noi serii de lucrări. Astfel, acesta se încheagă organic în jurul obiectelor ce compun ambientul în care pictorul trăiește zi de zi, cât și în jurul lucrărilor. Traces of Identity devine o instalație mixed media în care receptorul este integrat în mod intuitiv, descoperind incubatorul ideilor și a formelor elaborate de artist.
Artistul descoperă și recontextualizează fotografii vechi de familie, interpretându-le într-o manieră vizuală similară colajului – în compoziții picturale. Realizează un traseu identitar pornind de la imaginea fotografică, ajungând la elemente ce fac parte din universul său cotidian. Călătoria de cunoaștere inițiată geografic – căutarea fotografiilor de familie în locurile natale (Republica Moldova) și aflarea poveștii din spatele lor – finalizată în expresie plastică în cadrul propriului atelier – integrează trecutul în prezent și oferă o sugestie a unui posibil viitor. Colajul este una din tehnicile preferate ale artistului și servește atât ca punct de pornire în realizarea compozițiilor transpuse în pictură, cât și ca lucrări individuale, acest aspect fiind evident în aspectul panotării și atmosfera de work in progress a atelierului. Traseul vizual realizat de Pavel în creionarea unei posibile identități propune privitorului un dialog vizual intim și extrem de direct, aproape confesiv.
Traces of Identity se propune astfel ca o inițiativă curatorială de integrare într-un context internațional a unui eveniment artistic clujean mai puțin formal, cu scopul de a promova un artist contemporan tânăr, cu un demers plastic în forță. – Ada Muntean, Curator
Traces of Identity by Pavel Grosu is an open artist studio type of project, part of an ampler context – 1st Worldwide Apartment and Studio Biennale, organized by Anna Buyvid and Anna Khodorkovskaya.
The exhibition is firstly an intimate incursion in the artist’s environmental, practical and symbolic universe, revealing a plastic search began from the “time and space” coordinates of one’s own identity.
Pavel Grosu is transforming the studio/ apartment where he lives and works into an open space to show a new series of art pieces. Thus the exhibition comes together organically both around the objects that create the ambience in which the painter lives every day and around the works themselves. Traces of Identity becomes a mixed media installation in which the receptor is intuitively integrated in order to discover the incubator of the ideas and forms elaborated by the artist.
The artist discovers and recontextualizes old family photos and interprets them in a visual manner similar to the collage – in pictorial compositions. He established an identity trail beginning with the photographed image and reaching elements from his daily universe. The geographic journey to knowledge – looking for the family photos in his native places (The Republic of Moldova) and finding out the story behind them – finalized in the plastic expression inside his own studio – integrates the past in the present and offers suggestions as to a possible future.
The collage is one of the artist’s favourite techniques and serves both as a starting point in making the painted compositions and as individual pieces, this aspect being highlighted in their positioning and the work in progress atmosphere of the studio. The visual trail created by Pavel by outlining a possible identity invites the onlooker to take part in an intimate and very direct, almost confessional visual dialogue.
Traces of Identity is a curatorial initiative of integrating a less formal artistic event of Cluj into an international context with the purpose of promoting a young and forceful contemporary artist.- Ada Muntean, Curator
