It was just announed that Russia took home team gold in synchronized swimming, beating out China and Spain with their fast-paced routine that evoked a bizzarre-sounding “danger-riddled lost world of dinosaurs and giant insects,” according to Reuters. While many of us probably did not tune in to watch, that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy these mind-boggling photos of synchronized swimmers turned upside down.

Because the water is so clear, it gives the illusion that the swimmers are magically walking on it or balancing on it like it’s a gelatinous floor. In fact, in some of these shots you can’t even tell that they’re under water, that is, until you notice how they’re holding their breath…
