Arta contemporană este genul cel mai popular printre colecţionarii intervievaţi: 84% colecţionează artă contemporană, 37% – artă modernă, 14% – artă postbelică şi expresionism abstract (faţă de 10% anul trecut), 8% – impresionism şi postimpresionism şi tot 8% colecţionează opere ale vechilor maeştri. 6% colecţionează artă decorativă, iar alţi 5% – artă primitivă, tribală sau africană.

Cu toate că majoritatea colecţionarilor au mai multe reşedinţe, 97 dintre aceştia locuiesc în principal în Statele Unite (mai puţini cu 7% faţă de anul trecut), 21 în Germania (cu 40% mai mulţi decât în 2011), 14 în Elveţia, câte 10 în Marea Britanie şi Franţa, 5 în Belgia. Dintre capitale, New York adună cele mai multe nume din lista ARTnews 200, 36, după care urmează Londra cu 9, Paris cu 8 şi Miami cu 7 colecţionari de artă faimoşi ca rezidenţi.

Editorul ARTnews, Milton Esterow, a afirmat că există un consens între casele de licitaţii şi dealerii de artă, care cred că “piaţa de artă este una tot mai globală. Noi colecţionari continuă să apară din multe ţări, inclusiv China, Indonezia, India, Rusia şi America de Sud. Experţii spun însă că americanii conduc încă piaţa în mod covârşitor.”
