The Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden currently presents a retrospective exhibition of the work of André Cadere (1934–1978) from 27 October 2007 to 20 January 2008. The exhibition shows an overview of the œuvre of the Rumanian artist who was a key figure of the Minimal and Conceptual Art scene of the 1970s.
Cadere became well known in the 1970s with his “barres de bois rond” – round painted wood bars of varying sizes – which were minimalist art objects as well as instruments of artistic intervention. Handmade by the artist, the bars were composed of painted cylindrical segments, whose height corresponded to their radius. The individual units were assembled following a mathematical system of permutation whose logical sequence was disturbed by one error respectively.
On the occasion of the exhibition the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden is preparing the catalogue raisonné with a complete list of the round bars of wood which is due *to be published in January 2008*. *Any information regarding the whereabouts or ownership of these works will be helpful. Discretion is assured.
