The Past is a Very Insistent Voice este un proiect curatorial ce problematizează relativitatea prezenței și absenței în raport cu timpul și interferențele care se insinuează între aceste coordonate atât la nivel abstract, cât și concret.
Expoziția se conturează ca un demers vizual ce sugerează caracterul în definitiv iluzoriu asupra a ceea ce înseamnă prezența și absența ca stări – materiale și imateriale. Acestea devin concepte care nu se pot separa, incluzându-se reciproc. Absența nu poate fi percepută fără trimiterea la posibila existență a unei prezențe.
Teoria relativității a transformat modul în care înțelegem conceptele de timp și spațiu, oferind o viziune particulară asupra acestora și anume că timpul nu este un „flux constant” care trece în mod uniform, ci o dimensiune flexibilă, care poate fi influențată de viteza unui obiect și de câmpurile gravitaționale prin care acesta trece. Aceasta postulează și faptul că trecutul, prezentul și viitorul există simultan într-o structură spațiu-timp mai extinsă, dar percepția noastră este limitată la prezent. Drept urmare, trecutul nu este „dispărut” sau „pierdut”, ci există în mod obiectiv în cadrul acestui continuum, iar accesul nostru la el este restricționat doar de natura experienței noastre subiective. Mai precis, trecutul poate fi considerat o „dimensiune” la fel de reală și concretă ca orice altă secțiune în continuul spațiu-timp, deși noi nu putem accesa sau experimenta direct acea dimensiune.
Una dintre sursele de inspirație pentru acest proiect a fost pictura metafizică și substratul său conceptual. Spațiul creat de către pictorii metafizici sugerează în esență vidul, deși format din plus de materie, de obiecte pictate într-o manieră relativ realistă, ce configurează compoziții/peisaje construite din elemente „prezente”, contextualizate într-o atmosferă atemporală.
Demersurile artiștilor din expoziția The Past is a Very Insistent Voice – gravitează în jurul unui figurativ interpretat – ce pornește de fapt de la materie și care se încheagă sub forma unor obiecte sau corpuri ce conturează prin compoziție și atmosferă o interdependență între prezență și absență. Explorarea corpului uman și a materiei vine din dorința de cunoaștere și autocunoaștere a artistului în demersul său de explorare a lumii. Corpul (materialul) devine un vehicol de expresie, fiind unul din elementele principale componente a realității cunoscute tuturor și în același timp păstrătorul trăirilor umane (imaterialul). Corpul uman este intermediarul dintre sinele nostru şi lume, este cel cu ajutorul căruia gândim societatea, fiind la rândul lui modelat şi definit de aceasta.
Trupul uman este unul din cele mai percutante și puternice instrumente de exprimare în arta plastică, regăsindu-se ca punct-cheie în toate curentele artistice de-a lungul istoriei artei. Fie că vorbim de el ca performanță tehnică în pictură, desen sau sculptură și ne raportăm în această manieră la el începând cu perioada Renașterii, fie că îl privim ca imagine deconstruită și mai apoi reconstruită în Cubism și Futurism sau ca la un mijloc de instigare și mai apoi reflectare asupra existenței într-un performance, acesta este inepuizabil ca surse expresive.
Arta contemporană propune o poziție foarte asumată prin care plasează artistul în postura de a reimagina lumea printr-un proces care pornește din interioritate și oferă un comentariu critic atât despre conștiința intimă umană, cât și despre lumea exterioară acesteia în care omul își duce existența. Corpul devine un intermediar dintre conștiința sa și lume, într-un proces extrem de personal care poate fi asemănat cu spargerea unei oglinzi și mai apoi încercarea de reconstituire a ei, evident, imposibilă.
The Past is a Very Insistent Voice devine o propunere de interogare asupra a ceea ce înseamnă material și imaterial, prezență/ absență, certitudine vs. iluzoriu, într-o expoziție-sinteză ce cuprinde cele mai noi lucrări ale artiștilor.

The Past is a Very Insistent Voice is a curatorial project that questions the relativity of presence and absence in relation to time and the abstract and concrete interferences between these reference points.
The exhibition comes together as a visual approach suggesting the clearly illusionary character of presence and absence as material and immaterial states. These become self-inclusive, inseparable concepts. Absence cannot be perceived without alluding to the possible existence of a presence.
The theory of relativity transformed the way in which we understand the concepts of time and space, allowing for a particular vision, namely that time is not a “constant flux” moving in a uniform manner, but a flexible dimension, which can be influenced by an object’s speed and the gravitational fields it crosses. This also postulates that the past, the present and the future exist simultaneously in an extended space-time structure, yet our perception is limited to the present moment.
Thus, the past is not “gone” or “lost” but exists objectively within this continuum and our access to it is restricted only by the nature of our subjective experience. More precisely, the past can be viewed as a “dimension” as real and concrete as any other section of the space-time continuum, although we cannot access or experience it directly.
One of the sources of inspiration for this project was metaphysical painting and its conceptual underlayer. The space created by metaphysical painters essentially suggests a void, although created from and excess of matter, of objects painted in a relatively realist fashion, that configurate compositions/ landscapes constructed from “present” elements, placed in an atemporal atmosphere.
The artists’ approaches in the exhibition The Past is a Very Insistent Voice gravitate around interpreting the figurative, actually starting from matter and coming together as objects or bodies describing through the composition and atmosphere an interdependence between presence and absence.
Exploring the human body and living matter comes from a quest for knowledge and self-knowledge that the artists feel while exploring the world. The body (material) becomes a vehicle for expression, as one of the main elements creating the reality everyone knows, as well as the keeper of human experiences (the immaterial). The human body is the intermediary between our self and the world, with which we conceive reality while being shaped and defined by it.
The human body is one of the most relevant and powerful instruments of expression in fine art, that can be found as a reference point in all historical art currents. Whether we talk about it as a technical performance in painting, drawing or sculpture and view it as such since the Renaissance, or we see it as a deconstructed and reconstructed image in Cubism and Futurism and even as a media of instigation and reflection over existence through a performance, the body is an endless source of expression.
Contemporary art offers a very self-conscious view, placing the artists in a position to reimagine the world through a process that starts from within and offers a critical commentary of the intimacy of human conscious and the outside world where people live. The body becomes an intermediary between our consciousness and the world, in a thoroughly personal process, that resembles breaking a mirror and the, impossible, attempt to rebuild it.
The Past is a Very Insistent Voice becomes an offer to question what material and immaterial, presence/ absence, certitude and illusion actually mean, through a synthetic exhibition comprised of the artists’ newest creations.
