Sinopsis
Entering an antique shop, a young man finds an intriguing drawing
which is hiding a secret love letter on the back, written 70 years ago. After
finding out that the author of the drawing is still alive, 105 years old, and
persuasive in finding out if the story is real, the man goes on an unusual
journey to meet her, the painter who befriended many important Romanian
artists at the beginning of the 20th century.

Director’s Note
The Blissful Accidental Death came alive from the constant and
various personal research, “like the knitting of a burgundy sweater”.
It all started from finding a small, old drawing, having a love letter
written on the back.
The antiquarian sold it to me with a supposed love story between a
famous poet and a painter, a secret that was kept for 80 years. Luckily and
extremely surprising, the painter was still alive, a fabulous character in her
105th birthday who has spanned the whole last century, meeting the elite
Romanian artistic and intellectual scene.
The script does not contain the real story but rather a sum of images
of the interpretation of the painter’s life, framed by the real story of meeting
the drawing, and centrated by the love letter that illustrated a very difficult
moment, one in which she would have desired death but couldn’t bare to
commit suicide, but rather prefer “a blissful accidental death”. In the end,
the script is filled with metaphors of the personal dilemmas of the authors.
A filtered reality is created to portray the personal approach of the
story in a style of digital paper with 2d animation, inspired by the actual
drawing. The life of the character is fictionalised in a train journey, with each
compartment metaphoring supposed moments of a long life in a century
troubled by huge events like war and certain cultural fashion but also by
small life facts. 3d technique was used for the train and animated
characters, with a paper construction feeling and real paint textures. The
camera movement simulates a POV, stating that it was a personal
interpretation on the events, not a documentary one.

Cast/Characters
Martha Dinescu
Main character, the author of the painting found in the antique shop, the
character is inspired by a real Romanian painter. We see her at as a baby girl,
teenager woman, old lady throughout the movie – we follow her life journey –

Stefan Dinescu
Martha’s husband, a poet, he is writing poems all the time, on sheets or
scraps of paper, napkins, in his notebook.
Nae

by all of his students.
Tedy Brauner
Victor Brauner’ s little brother. He is in his 20’s, a rebel.
Victor Brauner

The rest of the characters are inspired by the period that Martha, the
painter, lived in: Gellu Naum, Sașa Pană, Marcel Iancu, Mihail Sebastian, Geo
Bogza, Tristan Tzara.
