“30 years ago, a rug which illustrated a piece of Mozart’s work, very popular at the time in Romanian’s homes but nowadays considered a genuine symbol of the contemporary Kitsch, was gradually removed from the collective memory after year 1989, leaving the door open to the shiny and more appealing consumerism.

The interactive installation „Fight with Mozart!” consists of a boxing bag rapped up in a rug with images featuring „Die Entführung aus dem Serail” (“The Abduction from the Seraglio”) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

In this way, the viewers/attendants of the exhibition can have a genuine boxing experience with Mozart’s work, literally!”

“The Abduction from the Seraglio” (according to the original name Die Entführung aus dem Serail) is an opera by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, based on a libretto by Stephanie Gottlieb, who revized the omonyme libretto initially written by Christoph Friedrich Bretzner. The absolute premiere of the opera took place on the 16th of July 1782, at the “National Thieter” in Viena. “The Abduction from the Seraglio” opera – which is in fact a jolly Singspiel, a form of traditional German theater which consists of alternating the spoken text with musical moments – is one Mozart’s most popular work.
