Curators Visit to Romania
16 – 21 October 2005

In October 2005, Visiting Arts will lead a six-day curatorial visit to Romania with support from The Ratiu Foundation. Announced in April 2005, the trip was open to application from UK based curators. The six participants selected are:

Sian Bonnell – Director, TRACE
Ben Borthwick – Assistant Curator, Tate Modern
Jenny Brownrigg – Exhibitions Department, University of Dundee
Kim Sukie Dhillon – Independent Curator
Elisabetta Fabrizi – Assistant Curator, BALTIC
Kerri Moogan – Programme Manager, Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow

Romania has a rich cultural heritage and a vibrant contemporary art scene which is not as well known in the UK as it could be. This visit will explore contemporary visual arts practice in Romania through visiting museums and galleries and meeting curators and artists both in Bucharest as well as in Cluj and Iasi. A number of social events will be organised to facilitate networking.

It is also hoped that the visit will stimulate arts activity between the UK and Romania as well as developing sustainable networks and encouraging collaborative working.
